Substation PILC 15kV Feeder Cable Replacements

 

This project includes the lifecycle replacement of medium voltage primary circuit cables from the substation feeder breaker cell to the first manhole outside of the substation.  Paper Insulated Lead Cables (PILC) consist of three (3) copper conductors surrounded by oil impregnated paper tapes complete with a lead sheath to contain the oil.  PILC cables are extremely reliable but are being replaced with cables with solid dielectric insulation.  

 

The scope for OFPT included preparation of the drawings indicating the cable routing in the substation basement, site plans and cable lengths, procuring replacement splice and termination kits, underground standards, cable inventory, manhole records and cable tray installation and support details.
